Privacy Policy

1. What this covers

This explains what information RAVE.PH collects when you use the site, and what we do with it.

2. Information we collect

  • Account info — when you sign up (by email or Google sign-in), we store your email address, display name, and password (encrypted). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from Google — we never see your Google password.
  • Activity on the site — votes cast, events you RSVP to, artists/venues you follow, events you submit, and reviews you post are tied to your account.
  • Comments — comments you post on events and articles, and your upvotes/downvotes on other comments, are tied to your account.
  • Profile details — your display name (changeable once) and an optional Instagram handle are shown publicly on your profile.
  • Following other members — if you follow another member, that connection is stored and used to power notifications.
  • Referrals — if you arrive via a referral link (e.g. a link containing ?ref=), we store which referral code brought you here.
  • Notifications — in-app notifications (e.g. someone followed you, replied to your comment, or your profile claim was approved) are stored until read.
  • Newsletter — if you subscribe, we store your email address to send the newsletter.
  • Saved events — bookmarked events are stored in your browser (not on our servers) unless you’re logged in.
  • Points & verification — the points you earn from activity, and whether your account is verified, are tied to your account and shown publicly on your profile once your score is above zero.
  • Beta access requests — if you ask for early access while the site is in private beta, we store the email address, artist name, and Instagram handle you submit, plus the time and your IP address, so we can invite you and set up your profile. Entering the staff access code stores a cookie on your device.
  • Instagram profile photo — if you tick the opt-in box on your profile, we request your public Instagram page and download your profile picture into our media library to use as your profile image.
  • Basic technical data — standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and to keep the site running.

3. How we use it

  • To run your account and remember your votes, RSVPs, and saved events.
  • To send the newsletter, if you’ve subscribed (you can unsubscribe anytime).
  • To review and publish event/artist/venue submissions, and to review requests to claim an artist or venue profile.
  • To power in-app notifications and referral tracking.
  • To keep the site secure and stop abuse (spam, fake accounts, vote manipulation).
  • To screen submitted links and comments for scams or phishing, interpret natural-language searches, draft page descriptions and image alt text, and cross-link the acts, venues and events named in articles — using automated tools including Google’s Gemini API (see section 5).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to train AI models.

4. Cookies & local storage

The site uses your browser’s local storage to remember things like your saved events and preferred city, even if you’re not logged in. This stays on your device. If you’re logged in, WordPress sets standard login-session cookies.

5. Third-party services

  • Google Sign-In — used for optional account sign-in.
  • Google AdSense — may show ads on the site and use cookies to do so.
  • OpenStreetMap — powers the events map.
  • Embedded players — artist profiles can embed SoundCloud, YouTube or Spotify players. Nothing loads from these services until you click to play; once you do, they receive your IP address and may set their own cookies. YouTube thumbnail images load from a Google server. Each service has its own privacy policy.
  • WordPress.com / Jetpack — our hosting and site infrastructure.
  • Google Gemini API — text from event submissions, comments, articles and search queries may be sent to Google’s Gemini API for scam screening, search interpretation, and content assistance. We do not send account credentials. Google processes this data under its API terms and does not use Gemini API content to train its models.

These services have their own privacy policies covering how they handle data.

6. How long we keep data

We keep your account and activity data as long as your account is active. Beta access requests are kept until the site opens publicly and for a short period after. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see below).

7. Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. Reach out through the About page to make a request.

8. Children

RAVE.PH is meant for people old enough to attend nightlife events. We don’t knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. We’ll update the date at the top when we do.
